Kvyat ‘will challenge’ Ricciardo

New Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat will present a big challenge to his new team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo, this season, according to Toro Rosso team principle Franz Tost.

Kvyat has got off to a shaky start with his new team, as he broke the front wing on his new in the first pre-season test in Jerez, but Tost is convinced that he has the quality to pose a serious threat to Ricciardo this year.

He told F1.com: “He took the front wing off, but this can happen. I’ve seen this sort of thing already, from much more experienced drivers - some even crashing on the formation lap to the starting grid.

“It was a small mistake by Daniil, but he will for sure come up with a good performance during the season and you’ll see at the end of the year that the team will be very happy with him.

“First of all, Daniel is much more experienced and this is a big advantage for him. But during the season Daniil Kvyat will also push Daniel Ricciardo - I’m convinced about this.”

Kvyat and Ricciardo will go head to head at Red Bull for the first time in Australia next month.
