Jul.2 - Lewis Hamilton wants $50 million a year to renew his contract with Mercedes, according to Britain's Daily Mail newspaper.

The news, reportedly confirmed by a "source close" to the six-time world champion, comes after team boss Toto Wolff revealed that Hamilton was behind the decision to switch from a silver to black livery for 2020.

Both Hamilton and teammate Valtteri Bottas' contracts expire this year, and the Daily Mail said the 35-year-old Briton wants 40 million pounds sterling each season.

A pay-rise amid the global corona and economic crisis might seem unlikely, but Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko thinks Mercedes will make it happen.

Told that Mercedes will be unwilling to shell out more for Hamilton amid the downturn, Marko said this week: "Then someone else will pay it.

"Petronas only has to transfer a little less to the team and send it to Hamilton instead."

The German news agency DPA is reporting ahead of the 2020 season re-start in Austria that Hamilton appears to want to stay at Mercedes for the foreseeable future.

"We want to build a legacy together that goes beyond sport," he is quoted as saying.

Perhaps Sebastian will drive for Mercedes next year without pay just for the sheer enjoyment of driving the best car and that is something that Mercedes would be prepared to do and line up Lewis and Seb to race each other and give F1 fans a thrill of lifetime.

since 2014 i wonder why merc is not offering their seats on auction?
honestly im sure that many drivers and sponsors would pay millions to get that seat
and merc would be able to make much more money from F1
they can win constructor title with any driver pairing
if I was Toto, i would start auction with 40 million and im sure that Alonso for example would gave all his money on that auction to get that seat...

Interesting idea, but MBZ would end up with rich daddy, average driver. And, no, they cannot win the WCC with just "any driver pairing".

For the greatest driver to ever race, sure. Esp since a large amount of that money will end up in BLM and other worthy causes!

I never liked Himilton because of how fake his behavior is. Yes he is good (maybe more than good) but would prefer to someone like Ricciardo or Sainz or Lando or Albon. Someone more modest and less invasive with his political statements. After recent Hamilton actions I would like him out of F1 rather than Merc signing another deal with this fine gentleman (which he is not)

How easily everyone takes for granted comments from the Daily Mail. I would not rely on those comments at all. News media short of news perhaps a bit quiet on the Brexit front now the UK has finished negotiations and leaving the EU December 31st without question.

Absolutely black live matter………. but so do lives in other groups.
Today there are as many gay people in the world as black people, however there are no countries that legally persecute & specifically kill you for being black. Where was indignant Hamilton, Wolf & Mercedes and all their ilk up until now, no doubt quite convenient for their respective images … Some say self-serving or ….. #hypocrites #£50millionformememe

As a point of interest, how many cars do Mercedes sell, service &/or look after in:
Afghanistan, Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia Somalia, Somaliland, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, amongst others.
As of 2020, they all prescribe the death penalty for homosexuality …………….

Notwithstanding the myriad of others who have draconian laws to punish being gay, like Singapore, Russia, China & many many more which Hamilton and Mercedes are comfortably happy to frequently visit and fraternise with …….. #hypocrites #£50millionformememe

Maybe Lewis needs the exta mills for when he becomes BLM Ambassador to the World & needs another jet to get around in. Or, perhaps he will need the big cash to start his own F1 team - BLM Racing, (Mercedes engines,of course). Thank whatever gods you have that we're going racing again this weekend.

Hamilton and MBZ are supporting a Marxist organization that is trying to destroy the nuclear family. That organization is BLM (read the BLM website to confirm these facts). Both are a black eye on the sport of F1. I will never buy a MBZ or support Hamilton. If F1 continues to support BLM I will stop watching F1.

If Hamilton mentions politics while racing, kick him out no matter how good he is, but stay away from Wolff, he is a business Manager!!!!!!!
