This year the  Singapore F1 Grand Prix celebrates its tenth anniversary. Over the last decade, the event has gone from strength to strength and become a well-deserved favourite amongst racers and spectators alike.

The race itself is held right at the heart of the city. What’s more, it takes place at night time. This gives the event a special feel and provides fans and drivers with a completely unique experience.

The grand prix takes place over 61 laps of the exhilarating city track. It’s sponsored by the world-famous Singapore Airlines. They help make it an event that’s truly not to be missed! This year’s race will be held from Friday 14 until Sunday 16 of September.

More Than Just an F1 Race

If you’re heading out to Singapore this year, there are simply loads of must try experiences that will help to make the trip one to remember. Let’s face it, you’re probably going to have more than just the weekend in the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Singapore. Even if you have, there are still the day times to fill too!

Where to Stay?

To make the most of your time in Singapore during the Grand Prix, you’re going to need somewhere to stay. Of course, during the race weekend and the week before and after, you’re going to pay a premium on whatever accommodation you stay in. Fortunately, the city of Singapore has some great options for all budgets!

For the height of luxury, you could go for a suite in Raffles Hotel on Beach Road. It’s elegant, luxurious and couldn’t be better situated for the race itself. Of course, it’s not cheap either but if you demand the best, you’ll forgive the price tag!

Also dotted around the track are several other beautiful luxury hotels. The Ritz-Carlton Millenia, the Mandarin Oriental, and Pan Pacific all have ideal plots near the action.

If you’re on a budget, there are also some affordable hostels. These include the Mitraa, the Footprints Hostel, and Little Red Dot. These come as cheaply as £20 a night, even during the race itself. Of course, you’ll have to do a little more travelling to get to the track, but guests should find the facilities comfortable enough for the price paid.

Some people love the idea of being close to a casino, which in Singapore means you need to pick a hotel close to Marina Bay or stay at the Sentosa resort. The Island State’s two legal casinos will be packed during F1 weekend, as it is with every major event hosted there.  They are massive, and much bigger than the largest UK venues.

What to Do?

Being a modern, cosmopolitan city, Singapore has loads to do when you’re not cheering Hamilton or Vettel on to victory. There are two great malls for retail therapy as well as evening’s entertainment. Marina Square and Sentosa Island offer high-end shopping, cinema facilities, restaurants, and bars. There are some truly great spots to sit and absorb the Singapore city lifestyle from.

If soaking up the sun is more your thing, why not head down to one of the stunning man-made beaches that Singapore has to offer. Most of the best ones are on Sentosa Island. There are all the traditional activities you’d expect to find at a tropical seaside resort too. You can play volleyball, football, go canoeing, or just unwind with a cocktail under the palm trees. Also, after a chilled day on the sands, there are plenty of great coastal nightclubs to party into the small hours at.

Families are also well-catered for around Singapore. If you’re planning your holiday with youngsters, Universal Studios Singapore is a must-visit attraction. It’s also situated on the island of Sentosa and you can find everything you’d expect to see in a world class theme park. There are rides, shows, and attractions spread across seven different themed areas.

Another fabulous trip for both adults and kids alike is to the Night Safari. You can witness some of the region’s most spectacular creatures in the twilight. These include the sunda pangolin, clouded leopard, fishing cat, Asian elephant, and even the stunning Malayan tiger! Various trails that take guests into the specific kingdoms of each of these beautiful critters. What’s more, doing it all by night makes for an even more magical experience!

What to Eat?

For the foodies, Singapore is a veritable feast! There are more Japanese restaurants than you could ever get through, as well as plenty of other Asian cuisines. Big spenders should head to Shinji by Kanesaka. This Michelin-starred sushi bar is up there with the best. It’s not cheap though but boy is it good! If you’re staying in the Raffles Hotel, all you’ll have to do is pop downstairs too.

If you’re visiting Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, a trip to Corner House is an absolute must! Choices are a little unorthodox here since there is no a la carte menu. Diners choose off a basic menu or the more ostentatious Discovery tasting menu. Chef Jason Tan guides his guests through an array of stunning local cuisines all in the majesty of the gardens. Just stunning!

If you’re on a budget, or just looking for something a little more casual, head over to Burnt Ends. Being styled on an Australian barbeque joint, it’s a much more down to earth experience! The restaurant itself doesn’t require a reservation and is in the heart of China Town. Despite the low-price tag, the food is absolutely top notch! We recommend the quail’s eggs. Those tiny runny yolks are simply to die for!

Where to Drink?

How do you celebrate when your driver has fought off the competition and has been crowned Singapore grand prix’s numero uno?  You hit the club of course! As you’d expect from a modern city like Singapore, there are no shortage of nightspots to visit.

Zouk Club has been open for around twenty years now. It specialises in underground music and its non-pretentious attitude has won it fans the world over. The club spans many different floors and rooms. It’s open from Wednesday to Saturday and you can dance right up until 4am!

If you’re more into mainstream music, a trip to Attica is going to be high on your list of priorities. It’s open seven days a week with earlier closing from Sunday until Tuesday. It’s usually pretty busy though so you’re guaranteed a great party. Attica is also likely to play host to some of the planet’s biggest names in dance music. The likes of Paul Oakenfold have played to the massive crowds that flock to the club. If the party pop soundtrack gets too much, you can always head to one of the club’s other rooms. You’re likely to find a good mix of hip-hop, trance, electro, and other genres around the massive venue.

There’s absolutely loads to do in Singapore during Grand Prix weekend. It’s right up there with the most exciting venues that host the electrifying F1 race. To be honest, you’ll be hard pressed to find yourself at a loose end with or without this guide! We’re betting you won’t even want to come home!
