Pastor Maldonado has regained ninth place in the US Grand Prix, after Jean-Eric Vergne was handed a five second time penalty.

Maldonado finished ahead of Vergne, but was hampered by his own penalty for speeding in the pitlane. That was his second penalty of the race.

The Lotus driver was put back to tenth behind Vergne, but the Frenchman has been subsequently penalised for colliding with Maldonado’s team-mate, Romain Grosjean.

Vergne was attempting to get past Grosjean and hit him hard while doing so. That damaged Grosjean’s car and he struggled to get to the end.

The points are Maldonado’s first of the season.
