McLaren hit major problems in final test
McLaren’s pre-season testing suffered another major blow today, as they completed just seven laps on day one of the final test.
Shortly after the lunch break, the team tweeted that their day was over, due a hydraulic leak, which requires an engine change.
They said: "We're bringing the shutters down on today - a hydraulic leak means we need to change the engine. #TestingIsTesting.”
The team were desperate to start this test on the front foot, after a sluggish first eight days of testing, but they now have a major fight on their hands to get some good running in the car before the new season begins.
They had hoped that a change of MGU-K components would allow Jenson Button some solid running today, after the Honda ones failed repeatedly last week.
Button hands the car over to Fernando Alonso’s replacement, Kevin Magnussen, tomorrow.
