McLaren hope Button will stay
Jenson Button is still a wanted man at McLaren, according to chief operating officer Jonathan Neale.
Button is expected to announce his decision to leave F1 this weekend, which would bring an end to a 15-year career.
McLaren have desperately struggled in the last two seasons and Button’s relationship with Ron Dennis is said to have broken down.
However, Neale is keen to retain the 2009 world champion and hopes that he will elect to stay for next season.
He said: “I really hope we've done enough between us to continue discussions with him and have the confidence to have him with us.
“There has been a lot of discussion about where Jenson is going. Jenson is a fantastic guy, world champion and a big part of our family and we're contracted with him.
"We want him to stay, we like him very much but if your driver really doesn't want to be in the team, you have to respect that."
