McLaren Unseen - Performance Scientist
Meet one of the team responsible for monitoring and maintaining driver health and fitness, David Harvey. In the video, David, a performance scientist, talks to camera and demonstrates some of the key procedures carried out in the lab. There are also track-side clips showing drivers who physically represent optimum performance condition.
David Harvey gives accounts of some of the key tests carried out in the laboratory showing his keen professional interest in the role his department plays in keeping drivers race-fit. This includes cardiovascular measurement and monitoring of fat/muscle proportions, among other aspects.
Explaining that he works directly with drivers such as youngster Kevin Magnussen son of Danish F1 driver Jan Magnussen, David outlines how certain items of equipment function. Close collaboration with the medical and physiotherapy disciplines is shown to be a crucial facet of Harvey's overall contribution to McLaren's prowess in the motor-racing sphere.
