Mercedes Sets Strict Vegas Casino Ban for F1 Team Ahead of GP
Nov.13 - Mercedes will not allow its F1 team staff to spend their downtime at the Las Vegas casinos this week, Toto Wolff has admitted.
The new street track that even takes in the iconic 'Strip' is now taking full shape ahead of this weekend's grand prix, with all eyes now on the forecasts of extremely cold temperatures for the late-night session times.
"Whoever warms up the tyres first will be strong," Sky Italia pundit Davide Valsecchi told Autosprint. "It could be a good opportunity for someone else to win.
"I feel that Lando (Norris)'s first victory will come here or in Abu Dhabi."
Pirelli boss Mario Isola, meanwhile, is expecting a lot of complaining from the drivers throughout the highly-unique race weekend.
"We cannot make a special tyre for Las Vegas," he is quoted by Ekstra Bladet newspaper, "so it is what it is. I imagine there will be very little grip.
"They will complain! But it's fine. We can handle that too."
What Mercedes boss Wolff will not be tolerating, however, are reports of staff members feeling the effects of big Vegas-style nights out.
"I've never been to Vegas," said the Austrian. "But we're going to keep everybody out of the casinos.
"I don't play, so I'm going to make sure that nobody plays," Wolff laughed.
And it appears that Aston Martin may be following the same policy.
"There will be a lot of distractions," admitted team boss Mike Krack. "It is important to focus when it is the right moment."

Now be back in your room by 10:30 children. I thought the F1 team members were adults.
Adults? Tommy, I suspect that you have had no contact with race teams. Adults is not a descriptor. LOLOL
Well your point is taken and I do know where your coming from with it as I do have 24 yrs of experience with racing in Karting. IN State Dirt Track Champ, 4 time BenHur Speedway Track Champ and IN Burris Dirt Series Champ are the highlights along with numerous feature wins and a few special event race wins. Im sure there will be some on here that will laugh because it wasnt shifter karts on asphalt but trust me when your running 3 wide into a corner @ 80 mph down the backstretch it was just as exciting and fun.
The dirt sounds like a hoot! You certainly know that we are not adults at the track. LOL It's all about competition and fun. I'd tell you to keep the shiny side up, but there ain't much shiny in the dirt.
Much bigger fish to fry. Anyone who has been to LV this time of year knows just how bloody cold it can be when the sun goes down. I mean really cold! And it goes right through you like winter in Jolly Ol'. Keeping the boys warm, or at least functional, will be a challenge. Second, Joe Saward has an interesting article on logistics. The airport has zero freight capabilities. The boys have to pack up, truck everything to Los Angeles, and then fly to Abu Dhabi. Those who have experienced a I-15 Vegas exit understand the task. So, the boys will have to pack really fast and bail overnight.
Team member: "Casinos??? Hell, just get me out of this friggin' town."
Cold in LV, it aint so warm in the UK at the moment about 6 deg, this weekend should be fun, a home from home lol
Yeah, you know what I mean. The cold goes right to your bones. :) It's been 50+ years and I still remember being cold in the UK. 6 deg...low 40's far., just what the boys should expect when they're packing up.
