Manor Marussia president Graeme Lowdon has said that Spanish driver Roberto Merhi is likely to be retained for next week’s Monaco Grand Prix.

Merhi was initially signed on a short-term contract to cover the opening few races of the season, and is due to compete in the Formula Renault 3.5 series this year.

The 24-year-old has failed to impress so far in comparison to his team-mate Will Stevens, but Lowdon doesn’t see him leaving.

He told AUTOSPORT: “I don't foresee any change at all. We have got a lot of work to do as a team to get the gaps closed.

"In the meantime the drivers have obviously got to perform and do their job. I don't expect any changes."
