Michael to leave McLaren at end of 2014
McLaren sporting director Sam Michael will leave the team at the end of the season.
Michael resigned in March and will move back to his native Australia to be nearer his family.
It was agreed in March that Michael will remain with the team for the 2014 season, and leave the team when the year was up.
He said: “It’s been 21 awesome years in F1. I have loved every minute of the racing and the people, but it’s time to go home- and get on with the next challenge.”
Michael joined the team in 2012 after leaving his role as technical director at Williams.
McLaren will be almost like a new team next year, with a major re-shuffle going on behind the scenes.
The futures of technical director Tim Goss and chief operating officer Jonathan Neale are not certain, while Peter Prodromou has started his role as chief engineer.
The team also hope to sign Fernando Alonso as a driver next year.
