Montagny fails Formula E drugs test
Former F1 driver Franck Montagny failed a drugs test at a recent Formula E race, the French daily L'Equipe reported on Thursday.
The 36-year-old, a former Renault and Jordan test driver who raced seven times for Super Aguri in 2006, drove for the Andretti team in the new Formula E series this year in Beijing and Putrajaya.
But Montagny was replaced by Jean-Eric Vergne at the Punta Del Este event, and he has now admitted it was because he tested positive for a cocaine derivative.
The French sports daily said he is suspended from racing until the FIA hands down a sanction.
"After the event I saw the guy who tests signalling me," Montagny admitted. "There, in my head, I knew immediately. It was over.
"I made a mistake, I'm guilty," he added.
Montagny has also worked as a F1 commentator for French television.
