Newey Joins Aston Martin F1 Team in Groundbreaking Role
Sep.10 - In a major development for the Formula 1 landscape, Adrian Newey, one of the sport’s most respected technical masterminds, is set to begin a transformative journey with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team. His appointment marks the start of a long-term partnership that underscores the team's growing ambitions in the sport.
Starting on March 1, 2025, Newey will take on the title of Managing Technical Partner, further bolstering the already impressive leadership team. Alongside this, he will also become a shareholder in the team, deepening his commitment to the project. With an incredible 25 Formula 1 world championship titles under his belt, Newey’s expertise is set to play a crucial role in shaping the team’s future, particularly with the development of the 2026 race car.
Announced on September 10, 2024, this strategic move represents a clear statement of intent from Aston Martin Aramco. Having Newey onboard demonstrates their determination to become a dominant force in the sport. His arrival, following a private tour of the state-of-the-art AMR Technology Campus earlier in June, signifies that Aston Martin Aramco’s vision for the future is aligned with his own.
Newey’s focus will be driven by a new set of technical regulations arriving in 2026, the introduction of Honda’s works power units, and innovative advancements from Aramco in fuel technology. All of this will be supported by Aston Martin’s cutting-edge wind tunnel, setting the stage for a bold new era.
Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team, expressed his excitement: “This is monumental news for us. Adrian is simply the best in his field, and his decision to join us proves we are serious about competing for world championships. When Adrian saw what we are building in Silverstone—the AMR Technology Campus, our team’s talent, and the advanced wind tunnel—it became clear that we shared the same goals. Adrian believes in this project as much as we do, and together we aim to make Aston Martin a true contender.”
Adrian Newey echoed Stroll’s sentiments: “I’m genuinely excited to be part of this team. Lawrence’s unwavering passion and vision for this team are clear, and his direct involvement in the sport makes a real difference. What the team has already built, especially with the AMR Technology Campus and our partnerships with Honda and Aramco, offers everything needed to fight for world championships. I’m eager to contribute to this ambitious project and help take the team to the very top.”
With this game-changing addition to their ranks, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team continues its relentless pursuit of success. All eyes are now on the exciting developments that will unfold in the coming seasons.
