Jun.11 - Lando Norris says he faced a backlash among his social media followers after wading into the current political moment.

At the tail end of the corona crisis, and amid widespread protests and racial tension, the McLaren driver heeded Lewis Hamilton's call for his fellow drivers to publicly support the Black Lives Matter movement.

"It's the biggest day in terms of the most people that have unfollowed me on all my social media channels," the 20-year-old told the Evening Standard.

"So, it's weird. You try to do what's good and what's right, but also so many people don't believe in it. If they don't believe in it, then I'm happy they unfollowed me.

"But I've got to make the most of the opportunities to show people to believe in what's right. Whatever way I can try to persuade them to believe in the right thing, I will try and do that," Norris added.

Amid the world's strange political moment, Formula 1 is now preparing to return to action next month with 'ghost races', and Norris recently swapped his home simulator rig for a Formula 3 cockpit to prepare.

"I've enjoyed the past few months but it's not as fun as driving a race car," the British driver admitted. "F1 is what I've wanted to do since I was seven years old. I've missed it."

What planet do you live on??? We are barely into the meat of the pandemic with more to come. We are simply learning to manage the challenge.

Re NOR, it was fun to see him chew up the IndyCar folks. Yeah, I know, it was SIM but still fun. IMO, we should watch him rather than RUS.

I was a Lando fan, but I'm 'glad' I will no longer waste time supporting a virtue signalling, pc parrot. ALL LIVES MATTER Lando!

I'm overreacting? I'm not rioting, burning down cities, burning cop cars, virtually annexing some cities while bringing others to its knees with riots. For what? For a criminal who happen to die during apprehension? It's herd mentality that benefits the shepherds. Lewis, Lando and thier ilk think they're woke revolutionaries. Others are playing the political game. They are all tools. The public are the nails.

But as you say, it's alright to have opinions --- and everyone has a different one. So shut your pampered and entitled yap, drive some of the best f**king cars money can buy for amounts of money most will only ever dream of, and get racing! But hey, that's just 'my' opinion.

Love Lando, but don't care about his pilitical views. Why do 'stars' feel compelled to expound all of their views? Lando is a very good driver and a funny guy. Period. Learn from Kimi... Drive and be quiet please.

Agreed, Swede, but they do have the right of free speech and I'm glad that the kids have thoughts other than finding an apex. Spot on re Kimi.

Yes I fully spoort free speeech. Celebs think their opinion matters howvere, just because they are celebs. And their opinion is just on e opinion, like yirs ir mine. Lando hss no specail insight int politics, he us a very good, yiung dtuver who has luved a pampered life racing cars. I would prefer to read about his racing tactics... he is very fast and rarely offends others on the track. That is why I like him... along with his keen sense of wit. Talkng too much about politics (inside and outside of F1) can hamper his ability to move to Merc or Ferrari in the future. Alonso has damaged his marketability, although I love the guy.. Vettel hss blurted out some career damaging. remarks in his red rage. Now Lewis thinks his opinions are relavent. Leclerc, by contrast, keeps quiet and lets his driving speak for him. He is the future...

It is unfortunate that young Lando is 'glad' to lose followrrs. He should connect wit all f his fans and try to undestand their view/opinion as well. Otherwise, he is seen as taking a political 'side', which is not a good career move when teams hire drivers for both driving ability and popularity.

To discount these 'unfolloeers' is very close-minded and part of the cause of the very situation he is speaking out about...

I came to the aid of lewis hamilton in his rookie year when he lost the championship when he crashed in the pit lane but now i hope that due to his two faced recent comments, that he never wins another race. i was switching my allegiance to Lando. but Lando must look deeply into thoses who he supports. Look at the comments of those who gave him is start in racing, those that hamilton is turning his back on. hamilton never shows regard to this country when the national anthem is played he fidgets and waves to the crowd. this country gave him what he had got , he is privileged.
Lando I can see in you what I seen in hamilton,. keep out of the stupid politics and make your career you have talent and you could surpass those that came before you. you are Britains future No. 1 driver. good luck and I wish you well,
