Red Bull aero expert finally joins McLaren
The worrying trend of design experts leaving Red Bull has again reared its head after aerodynamist, Peter Prodromou, started work at McLaren.
Prodromou agreed to join McLaren nearly a year ago and will act as their chief engineer.
Prodromou is a big loss to Red Bull, where he played a significant part in the team winning four drivers and constructors championships in a row. It is further evidence that this is an end of an era for Red Bull, with Adrian Newey also leaving this year.
Prodromou had worked for McLaren from 1991-2006 before moving to Red Bull. But now he returns as the man in charge ahead of McLaren’s new partnership with Honda, which starts next season.
McLaren and Red Bull have been scrapping over engineers for the past year, since Prodromou’s return was announced.
Another Red Bull engineer, Dan Fallows, had also agreed to move to McLaren but reversed his decision following a new Red Bull offer.
On his return, Prodromou said: “It’s fantastic to return to McLaren, and to see a mixture of faces old and new.”
“Of course I have first-hand experience of just what a passionate, focused and capable race team exists within these walls, and I’ve already seen the enthusiasm and positivity that exists to return McLaren to world-championship winning glory.”
Eric Boullier describes Prodromou as: “one of the most capable and intelligent engineers in Formula 1.”
