Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will go head to head in Germany this afternoon for pole position, according to reports, with the defending champion escaping a penalty.

The Mercedes driver was summoned to the stewards after an unsafe release from the pits in practice three, but the team have only been fined.

If Hamilton had been reprimanded, he would have been handed a 10-place grid penalty which would have given Rosberg an almost certain victory.

As it is, he will fight for pole this afternoon with his championship rival.
