Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has said that he has been impressed with the pace of Ferrari during winter testing.

The Italian team topped the timesheets on the first two days, while the Ferrari-powered Sauber team were the quickest yesterday.

Mercedes still look to be the class of the field, but Rosberg admits that the pace of Ferrari has taken him by surprise.

He told reporters:  “Of course we are keeping an eye on the opposition and Ferrari have been an eye-opener for us during the last couple of days. Still, we are confident we will start the season well and be strong in development.”

“Our goal has been mileage because reliability was our weakness last year and so we are focused on that. It’s important to see the problems now because you then have time before Melbourne.

“If you have problems in Barcelona there is only a short time to Melbourne so it’s more difficult to solve them. Anything you can find here will be easier to fix and that’s why it’s so important to get the miles down.”

Rosberg has completed over 150 laps on both of his days in the car, while some F1 insiders suggest that they have been hiding the true pace of their car.
