Nico Rosberg hailed his Mercedes pit crew for providing him with the car which enabled him to go and grab pole position ahead of tomorrow’s Belgian Grand Prix.

The German took advantage of Lewis Hamilton’s engine woes, which force him to start last tomorrow, by taking pole ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and the Ferrari pair of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel.

And Rosberg refused to admit it was plain sailing after worrying form in practice  on Friday and Saturday.

"We had a difficult weekend up to now, especially this morning. We got the job done, having made some changes to the car before qualifying. I'm pleased,” he said.

"I'm happy to be on pole, the tyres are going to be difficult, though. There will be a lot going on.”

Rosberg is 19 points behind Hamilton in the championship and could claw all that back with victory tomorrow.
