Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg is using his fourth penalty-free engine of the season in Singapore this weekend.

The German failed to finish in Italy last time out after his engine expired in the closing laps, allowing Lewis Hamilton to open up a 53-point gap in the title race.

Rosberg used this unit in first practice in Italy before switching to the older one which ended his race.

Hamilton still has one fresh engine left, while Rosberg is in serious danger of receiving a penalty if he needs to use an extra one.

He said: "I am not sure how compromising it will be going forward, most likely a small compromise at least and maybe a bigger one depending. But we don't know yet.”

Rosberg will be keen to avoid taking a penalty in the likes of Abu Dhabi and Brazil at the end of the season as they are on power-hungry tracks.
