Sauber driver Marcus Ericsson has said that his team didn’t under fuel the car to make it look faster, during the opening winter test.

Sauber topped the timesheets on day three, while they came second to Ferrari on days one, two and four.

2014 was a disastrous year for the team, but Ericsson insists that their pace is genuine.

He told AUTOSPORT: “We have quite a bit of margin to be honest, so that’s positive. We’ve had a really good test. It’s been very positive that every day we’ve done a lot of laps and we’ve had no real issues with the car.

“And it was interesting for me driving on day one and day four to see the progress we’ve already started to make. The car I drove on Sunday to the car I drove this afternoon is quite a few steps in feeling.”

Ericsson said that the a positive feeling ran through the team all winter, and that has now grown after this week’s results.

Ericsson is joined at Sauber by rookie Felipe Nasr.
