Sauber team boss Monisha Kaltenborn has praised her drivers for scoring the teams’ first points in almost 18 months in the Australian Grand Prix.

Felipe Nasr drove superbly to finish fifth, while Marcus Ericsson’s eighth place finish capped off a fine day, after a difficult weekend for the team.

On the eve of the race, Dutch driver Giedo van der Garde took Sauber to court as he believed that he had a contract to race for this season.

He won the case, but dropped his claim to race at the last minute.

Kaltenborn told reporters: "It's a great relief, it has been a rough weekend. What impressed me about the team is how they could stay focused, and the drivers as well because they are more exposed to the media so it is not easy for them.

"They had their heads in the right place and showed great performance."

Sauber failed to score any points last season.
