Nov.6 - Ralf Schumacher thinks it is possible that Lewis Hamilton really will retire from Formula 1 after wrapping up his seventh title.

The 35-year-old Mercedes driver caused a stir after winning at Imola by insisting there is "no guarantee" he will agree a new contract for 2021 and beyond.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff played that down, insisting that sitting down for extended contract talks with Hamilton is simply too risky amid the corona crisis.

"The worst thing would be if they (the drivers) miss a race or more," he said.

But former F1 driver Schumacher, whose brother Michael retired as the sport's only seven time world champion, thinks Hamilton might really be inching towards retirement.

"This is now the seventh title that he wins, and that has an effect," he told Sky Deutschland.

"It's a lot of years of travelling, a lot of energy, and of course it costs you in strength," Schumacher added.

However, he admits that the contract hold-up could simply be a dispute about money.

"I think that due to the corona pandemic, there is not quite an agreement on the salary," said Schumacher.

At Imola, the race result clinched the seventh consecutive constructors' world championship for Mercedes - an achievement described by Schumacher as "unimaginable".

"Even if many viewers might not want to hear it anymore, this is the way it is," he said.

"We have to congratulate Mercedes but also Lewis. To drive as consistently and strongly and cleverly as he does, no one else could do that."

I can't wait to see LH disappearing and sparing us of his BLM charade. Formula 1 is a sport and not a platform for making fake political statements.

Lewis, like everyone is entitled to his opinion on what issues to support, but thanks for letting us know that you are a racist. You can't even acknowledge the skills of this black man.

It is generally agreed that given a competitive car Max Verstappen is the better driver. He is the one who will be remembered, not the political activist Hamilton. He only has those wins and championships because of Mercedes.

Hans, who are the "generally agreed" folks who claim that VER is better than HAM? Your opinion is well- intentioned, but "generally agreed" is a bit of a stretch. Make that a huge stretch. HAM had a rookie record breaking season partnered with Fernando Alonzo (no slouch) at MCLAREN. He won the WDC in second year with MCLAREN, not Mercedes. What has young Max done in first SIX seasons.....very little. I am neither a HAM nor MB fan, but facts are facts.

Hans.... you’re dead right. Verstappen and Leclerc both beat him whenever they had a competitive car. Just remember Monday and Belgium last year when Ferrari had a competitive car. Leclerc gave LH a master lesson, when he was his usual game of chasing to put pressure on the opponent hoping he’ll crack. Leclerc not only didn’t crack but was playing with him

typical of this country, build someone up so that you can knock them down again. Speaking up for people who have or are suffering is the duty of all of us and LH is doing just that. Here we have a fine example of not only one of the best F1 drivers of the Century but also a caring human being.

I am a massive Lewis fan and I think he is the best F1 champ of all time. Skillful, phenomenal and also he is such a lovely guy, he will put himself out to help.people and does lots for charities in this Country and elsewhere. Also pays loads of tax here be4 anyone pipes up about that. Lewis has never had the recognition he so deserves in this Country, shameful. He is our 6 time world champ, hopefully soon to be 7, a British world champ who flies our flag so many times, he will be sorely missed when he retires. F1 will not be the same without him
