Tech Bites: Aero CFD Simulation - Sauber F1 Team

Watch, learn and discuss! Many of you were impressed by the CFD animation used at the end of our latest Cutaway Insights video. So we decided to provide you with some more of these highly interesting animations. It's short and it's even an old car (can you figure out which one?), but it provides great insights and plenty of room for discussion!

Did you know that (depending on the aero/wing setup) the tyres of a Formula One are account for as much as 30% to 50% of total drag?

CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) is a great tool which is not only used for aerodynamic research, but also for simulations of all kinds of fluids in the race cars. Different from the wind tunnel, CFD also allows to calculate and simulate temperatures. The two complement each other perfectly.
