Todt: F1 working on alternatives to reverse grids
Jun.16 - Jean Todt says Formula 1 is working on "other innovative ideas" after Mercedes vetoed the plan for qualifying sprint races and reverse grids in 2020.
The FIA president said the corona crisis means the sport needs to become creative about how best to put on a show this year.
"We have to take advantage of this different period to achieve objectives that under normal conditions would be almost impossible," he told Corriere della Sera.
"We must be creative in the calendar, not only in F1, but in all disciplines, from rallies to Formula E," Todt added, when asked about the prospect of Mugello and other non-F1 venues filling in the gaps left by cancelled races.
As for reverse grids and qualifying sprint races, Todt said he supports initiatives like that even though Mercedes voted against it.
"When there are two grands prix on the same track, this allows you to carry out bold experiments," he explained.
"A qualifying sprint race is one idea, but it did not pass with unanimous support. But this does not mean that we will not find other innovative ideas. That work is now being done," said Todt.

Here's a bold idea.....just race the friggin' cars!
I don't like the idea of qualifying races one thing that is great about qualifying is seeing drivers at the absolute limit of grip car at full power and drivers giving their all to get that one perfect lap also do you imagine a driver minding their business in qualifying races and being taken out and having to start at the back through no fault of there own
Qualifying for second race on wet track. To start practices All teams to file out of pit lane to their starting grid in order of last race finish spot and make a practice start row by row. All teams will have to start practice on track insread of sitting it out in the garage and spectators get to see some action instead of starts practiced in pit lane, as there is nothing worse than going to the event and cars don't come out. At the same time you get some runber on the grid and the drivers would get a better first lap practice on fresh tires
Thank you Toto!!!! Only guy willing to do the right thing.
Thank you Toto!!!!
Just F1 starting again will be plenty of excitement. We do not need and foolish extra gimmicks - it will only take the gloss off an already incredible sport. We do not need a circus or a an aged ringmaster (he has had an incredible career, don't spoil a great reputation).
