Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost has said that Britain’s Alex Lynn is in contention for the second seat at the team next year.

Red Bull’s junior team are yet to decide on their 2015 driver line-up and it is thought that up to four drivers are in contention to partner 17-year-old Max Verstappen.

Verstappen was due to replace current racer Jean-Eric Vergne and line-up next to current rookie Daniil Kvyat, but Kvyat was soon snapped up by the main Red Bull team after Sebastian Vettel confirmed he was leaving.

This has left Toro Rosso and Red Bull with a big decision to make and Lynn, who is on the verge of becoming GP3 champion, has a good chance.

Tolst told F1 reporter Adam Cooper: “I saw every race from Alex this year. He has done a good job so far. There’s the final race in Abu Dhabi, and I think he’ll win the championship because he only needs a few points.

“He’s a highly-skilled driver, he’s done a good season, he’s leading the championship, and the rest we will see.”

Tost did confirm that Vergne, Carlos Sainz Jr and Pierre Gasly are also in contention. Vergne is considered to be the favourite as he has experience.

Sainz Jr has recently won the Renault 3.5 series and is scheduled to test for Red Bull in Abu Dhabi.
