Jun.30 - Max Verstappen has scoffed at Lewis Hamilton's proposed solution for ending the dominance of single Formula 1 teams.

Mercedes' Hamilton told reporters in Austria that the FIA should consider banning work on next year's cars until at least August 1.

"It needs to change because that's why you have dominance for so long," said the seven time world champion. "They keep allowing it to happen.

"When Ferrari were ahead the same thing happened there. When Red Bull were ahead with Seb (Vettel) back in the day they could start earlier. They were always ahead."

Hamilton says he suspects that the only reason Red Bull's rivals have gotten closer in recent races is because the dominant team is already fully focused on 2024.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner doesn't deny that.

"Obviously, because we have a lot less wind tunnel time, we have to start thinking a lot about next year," he said.

"There are obviously things that we'll keep bringing to this year's car, but a lot of the focus now back in the factory is already on next year."

Runaway championship leader Max Verstappen, however, scoffed at Hamilton's suggestion that letting Red Bull get a head-start on 2024 is "unfair".

"Life is unfair as well, so we just have to deal with it," the Dutchman hit back in the FIA press conference. "It's not only in Formula 1."

Afterwards, he then told Dutch media: "We didn't hear him (Hamilton) say this when he won the titles all these years, did we?

"It doesn't seem right to me. This is how Formula 1 works.

"If you have a competitive car, at some point you can start looking more at next season," Verstappen added. "It makes sense that he said it, but they should then not forget what the situation was like when they won all those championships years in a row.

"If we had said back then something like he's saying, we probably would have reacted to them the way I am now."

Its a good thing there's so much composite material on Hammys car or there would be rust all over it from his constant whining and tears. Every race "I got no grip man" He should have received the academy award for the way he and only he climbed out of the car early this season due to the bouncing....he looked like Yoda.

Mercedes was dominant for seven years. The only way to achieve what Hamilton wants is to make F1 a spec car series in which case it would no longer be the penultimate motorsport sanction. One area that could be improved upon would be to allow teams that are at the back an down on performance more testing to allow for course corrections either to powerplant packages or aero.

“We didn’t hear him (Hamilton) say this when he won the titles all these years, did we?” Nothing to add; that says it all.

Hopefully, MB will look at these results, have a serious meeting with adults and bid Lew a fond farewell. He isn’t worth the ridiculous amount of money he is demanding.

Thanks Johnboy but I just stated the obvious. Lew has come an end at F1. He spends more time staring into a camera, saying silly things and has become a total pain In Toto’s derriere. I’m not sure Toto could take another season of Lew’s complaining.

Never mind level playing fields with the cars, how about a level playing field within the teams, i.e. when is MV going to allow a decent RB team mate.

When does a driver have to accommodate his team mate? Perez has been in F1 long enough to know what is expected. If Perez is falling behind, it isn’t Max’s responsibility to hold his hand. WDC is nice but it is the Constructors Championship that counts. There never has been any mystery about RB’s philosphy, either produce or find somewhere else to go. Perez knew this going in. What championship driver has ever had to accommodate his team mate?

To be fair,he did know it , but he took the job on, , because he was out of F1 if he hadn't, Checo will i repeat over the course of a season , 1.Help Rb secure the WCC, oh hang on that's in the bag already, ok 2 Take the flak from the stragglers behind, and 3 take the Rb win when Max dozes off , or stops mid race for a pizza, oh Susan your still on my Christmas card list x

Dame Lucille is just sooo butt-hurt about struggling to get into the points that he is lashing out irrationally. Especially so when Boi George gives him a hot shellacking. Meanwhile, The Dame was very focused on reporting track-limit infractions, and forgot all about his own. "Ha, gorsh did I do that?"

Red Bull, since entering F1 has taken the philosophy of grooming young talent and bringing them into the fold. Coulthard and Weber were carry over from Jaguar and once they departed Red Bull held to the philosophy of finding young talent to groom. Max was recruited into the F1 grid by Red Bull when he was only 17. Vettel if I recall was only 19. Perez is the first deviation from this after several attempts at promoting a young driver into the #2 seat at Red Bull failed to produce adequate results. Perez is a very good driver and has shown that at times he can be as quick as Max. Where he lacks is in multitasking ability. Like this past weekend where he struggled to get around Sainz because he was timing the passing attempt wrong and allowing Sainz to get DRS immediately after being passed. It took several laps to get around Sainz where for Max to get around Leclerc with the same circumstances it took him two laps. He immediately calculated the strategy necessary to prevent Leclerc from getting DRS immediately after being passed and comfortably executed the pass. Currently this capability seems to be present mostly with Max and Alonso. Red Bull would not likely consider Alonso as a second driver as Alonso probably has no more than 3 or 4 more years as a driver. He can groom young talent but Max does not need grooming anymore. It will be interesting if a revamped Alpha Tauri starts to bring out young talented stars again that can feed into the Red Bull team. I seems that this is what Marko is hoping for. In the meantime Sergio is a very good #2 and will challenge Max at times.

What was wrong with Checos race was pointed by those world class commentators at Sky, they'd seen Max not overtake at that corner, a quick few words on the radio and Checo would have been through at first attempt, ok maybe that's down to Maxes engineer, or strategist to tell him, which neither did, apart from that a flawless race and result for SP, MB were so arrogant , they could have bought Williams and used it as a feeder team , but siting on those laurels must have numbed there brains, Toto you messed up there Imo

I want to see Williams back at the front, not as a feeder team for Mercedes Benz. Formula 2 and 3 are meant to be the feeder series. The last thing Formula 1 needs is a bunch of teams merely filling up the grid to train drivers for the top teams. One potential solution could be selling AlphaTauri to Andretti Autosport. With Alfa Romeo becoming Audi’s works team, we would have two additional teams competing for the championship without the need to expand the grid.

Sergio has moments of being a very good driver, but moments don’t win races or constructors championships. He needs to get his head together.

I do not think that Hamilton would be a good fit at Ferrari. Ferrari have loads of technical talent, they always have. They have lacked having the strong strategic and technical management since Todt and Braun left. They are back to operating like a Chinese fire drill and constantly putting out fires caused by poor management decisions or tactical decisions at the upper management level. I do not think that Hamilton would do well in the land of chaos nor would he like it much.

It is getting to be not such a great fit at MB either. No one seems to be taking his advice on how to make a better car. How does Lew find the time, clothes designer, telling the FIA what rules they need to enact, designing new better and faster car so he can win his 8th. He truly is a walking marvel.

An awful lot of sarcasm floating around regarding Dame Lucy, I can see her and Torger getting a divorce at the end of the year, maybe she could be on the commentary team at Sky, because she does a lot of bollox , shed fit right in
