Verstappen to make F1 debut in Suzuka
Teenager Max Verstappen will become the youngest ever Formula 1 driver at this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.
The Dutchman will compete in Free Practice One for Toro Rosso, who he is signed to race for next year.
Verstappen turns 17 tomorrow, meaning he is old enough to drive an F1 car competitively.
He will take the place of Jean-Eric Vergne, who he is replacing as a full-time driver next year.
Verstappen said: “To be already participating in a practice session is a dream come true.”
“It will be a valuable experience, spending some time in the car and also getting used to working with everyone in the team, to prepare myself for next year.”
There will be a lot of anticipation on Friday, as F1 sees the talented youngster for the first time.
Toro Rosso shocked everyone when they announced Verstappen will drive for them next year.
He has subsequently been compared to great drivers such as Ayrton Senna.
Verstappen is the son of ex-F1 driver, Jos Verstappen.
