Feb.7 - Lewis Hamilton has all but confirmed his intention to race in 2022 with a social media post declaring that he is "back" after a long period of radio silence.

"I've been gone. Now I'm back!" the seven time world champion declared as the caption to a photo of himself standing at the top of the Grand Canyon.

Germany's Bild newspaper reports: "Hamilton has been preparing physically for the new season for some time. He is in constant contact with the team.

"He is not expected back at Mercedes until mid-February."

Indeed, February is the month in which all Formula 1 teams will unveil their totally-new cars for the 2022 regulations in preparation for winter testing.

In truth, the 'Hamilton quits' rumours are believed to have been little more than posturing, as the 37-year-old Briton typically sits out the winter weeks anyway.

Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko acknowledged the unusual intensity of the Hamilton versus Max Verstappen battle last year, admitting the new world champion also suffered.

"We were all at the limit," he told Autorevue.

"Thank God some people only got coronavirus after Abu Dhabi. That was good timing. Max told us that he couldn't stand such intensity anymore," Marko admitted.

"He still wants to drive for a while, but if it's like that every year, then it is limited," the 78-year-old Austrian said.

Unlikely that a 24 yr old young man being paid to race a F1 car for a top team is deterred by the "intensity" of our sport. More likely joyful wonderment.

There are more important things in life then this completely discredited and now pointless shambles. Not worth getting yourself killed for when the result is a complete lottery.Just a means to sell advertising.

was’nt but is now and the ridiculous delay in bringing in changes tells me that the bean counters control the sport.
If Verstappen and Hamilton both retired it would make no difference to the bean counters, the fans would soon transfer their love/ hate to other drivers and the odd fatality would be great for the viewing figures.

....not forgetting being cheated of one by a biased FIA official, unlucky in another by having an unrealible car compared to your team mate and finally robbed of another by a very bad pit lane decision.

Max like Nico had a lucky win and thinks the intense pressure applied relentlessly by Lewis is too much to cope with yet he ‘deserves’ to be world champion! What a spoiled brat.
By those criteria Lewis would deservedly be a ten times world champion.

The stats don't lie both Nico & Max scored more points in the season than hamilton to secure the championship that's the facts and we'll deserved for doing it
