Max Verstappen has backed Red Bull's decision to axe Pierre Gasly.

"Of course it's a pity for Pierre," the Dutchman told De Telegraaf newspaper. "But personally I don't care who my teammate is."

Verstappen's new teammate is Alexander Albon, a British-born Thai driver who is promoted from the junior team Toro Rosso.

Dr Helmut Marko, the main decision-maker when it comes to Red Bull's drivers, told Auto Bild that Albon has had a "great debut season" so far.

"He has squeezed everything from his car," he said.

Gasly, on the other hand, "has problems in traffic because he loses places and doesn't like to overtake".

"We had to react and give Albon the chance until the end of the season," Marko said. "Gasly takes over at Toro Rosso and then we will see who is next to Max next year."

France's RMC Sport claims Gasly was told about his dumping while on holiday mere hours before the news was made public. The source added that the Frenchman had a difficult relationship with his engineers.

Verstappen backed Red Bull's decision to look for a stronger second driver.

"The point is that we perform better with the other car and gain more points for the team," he said.

And with the new Red Bull lineup, Marko said he is confident.

"This year we built a car with less downforce as we underestimated Honda's progress. We didn't expect such a powerful engine," he said.

"But now we have fixed everything and are now close to Mercedes and definitely faster than Ferrari. I think we will be competitive everywhere in the second half of the season."

Marko is a devil walking on this earth -and Max is such a fudger- of course he cares who his team mate is!! He did not want to pair with Sainz, Ocon, or Alonso fornthis 2019 season because they are excellent drivers and would challenge him. Additionally, he did not get on well with Riccardo because Ric is a better driver than Max.

Poor Albon- I wish him well- let's hope he has the grid required to survive in Red Bull- he needs to liaise closely with his mum to help him to survive in this RB team - I believe she is a hardened criminal ( I think she got a 6 year prison sentence recently) so she definately has the grid to deal with Marko, Horner and the all others at RB when the chips are down

Such a low brow comment, you can say these things on this tiny forum but face to face without your anonymous identity you would be a shaking bag of potty waste. You are ugly minded and likely rascist.

      • Pam

Camel- my comment tells it as I see it and is NOT racist. I am totally insulted that you suggest I am racist and dont get where you are coming from esp since nearly every driver in F1 comes from a different part of the globe. That is what makes it inclusive in terms of race and one reason why I love F1.

        So please think again !

      • BlackDog

What an idiotic comment Camel-Jockey and from someone who is equally hidden behind a call sign and I have to say that your call sign does have a meaning that certainly could cause offence and is a pejorative term in itself. This forum already has a racist contributor and it is NOT Pam. In fact she stood up to the foul rant and made he position clear. So please do not cast aspersions where there is no foundation because in itself it causes offence.

        • Camel Jockey

Racist connotations have no place in a public sport forum-period! People need to think about what they’re putting in print before engaging the keyboard. You need not lecture me, save your indignation for Max or whomever it is that gets your goat up..in actual fact..go back to sleep Black Dog.

          • BlackDog

Just what are you suggesting is racist in what Pam has said? I've even re-read it and for the life of me I do not know what you are talking about, so please enlighten us?. However a simple google search of the phrase Camel-Jokey returns "Pejorative, ethnic slang, ethnic slur of an Arab". So just who is the racist here?

          • Camel Jockey

Keep reading ‘Black Dog’. You don’t need to lecture me on the subtle nuances of racism. Put away your dictionary and relax your face. You know? a number of posters on this forum are uncannily alike in your verbal abuse and self love of your own words..go figure eh...

        • BlackDog

Very nice to hear from a Brand New Member on your very first post! Do I take it that you've binned the other pseudonym and are now going with this one? Or do we call you David Merrington? that tried and tested writer of bile?
And while I'm here I'm still awaiting a response from your Alter-Ego as to why it's fair to claim someone is racist when the only one who is (Camel-Jockey) uses a username which is in itself a racist slur and despite a propensity to add to the thread refuses to defend them self. Hypocrite!

  2. Gabethebabe

"Marko is a devil". False. He is a guy that backed Gasly until the end and made a really tough choice. There are many more interests to defend other than the drivers - like the people that invest millions and in return see a driver that is being ridiculed everywhere.
"Max did not want to pair with Sainz, Ocon or Alonso". Please provide proof.
"Ricciardo is a better driver than Max". False. Max overtook Ricciardo in 2018 and Ricciardo ran away.
"Poor Albon". False. I'm sure he is absolutely thrilled with this opportunity.

  3. Pam

RB said publically Gasly was in his RB seat until the end of the year-False

I am sure Max has a clause in his contract that he can have a say on who he drives with - True.

VER didnt get on with Ocon or Sainz since carting days /driving in TR also Alonso is miles better than Ver. Hence RB decided not to continue talks with Alonso last year when DC accepted the Renault drive-True.

'Poor Gasly' is a comment Gasly deserves -esp since Marko and Horner only told him that he was moving down to TR whilst Gadly was on his actual 2019 holiday vacation and only ONE hour before the press released this change- how thoughtless!

As I say, I hope Albon has the grit to deal with these butcher cleaver bosses in RB!

    • Goldenoldie

Pam, are you a frustated girl or boy?
In any case your comments don’t make sense at all!!!
How can you be sure that Verstappen has a clause in his contract that he has a day in who will be his teammate!!!
      Keep on dreaming

  4. BlackDog

F1 is a cut throat business and the team are entitled to change their drivers as they see fit because they have the data that we don't see. That said; giving someone half a season likely means that those who chose Gasly in the first place are as much to blame and that decision lands on Marko's front door.
The other thing that is pretty obvious is that unless you have a car that is head and shoulders above the competition, such as the Merc 2014-16 and then if you have two drivers that are as good as each other then you are unlikely to win the WDC as those points are averaged out like McLaren in 2007. Truth is that Lewis, Seb and Max all publicly say that they aren't bothered about who their team mate is but they must be really. However, of the three it's only Lewis that has openly never had a stipulation (or veto) on the team in this regard.

  5. Pam

Camel, please take my advice and look up the definition of racism in a dictionary. Then, re-read my orginal comment and think again about your intrepretation!

Blackdog and I are on the same page -but you are way-off the mark- I am wondering if you have a real understanding of English language/terms?

Now do us favour and write again when you have something useful and interesting to contribute!

    • Camel Jockey

There is no excuse for your comment and no easy wriggle out. I have full comprehension of the language and your continual personal abuse is further proof of your normalisation to using sick terminology while maintaining your self righteous belief in anti racism which is laughable to an observer. You’re on the same page as the the Black Dog because you are likely the same individual. If you write ugly unfounded comments about people you don’t know personally or racist comments then expect to be challenged. When you write worthwhile feedback then you can come back, otherwise carefully place your self righteous advise somewhere painful as a reminder.

  6. Pam

Camel the name you use on this site is an ethnic slur - as already explained by Blackdog - and as is written in the dictionary definition below : I suggest changing this appauling name - just change it!

Camel-jockey =. Noun. (plural camel jockeys) an athlete who rides camels during a race. (pejorative, slang, ethnic slur) an Arab.

    • Camel Jockey

Black Dog is an acceptable name to you? As I’ve said, you have normalised to your own level of self righteousness. Think about your unusual position and then perhaps your mental health, which is questionable.

      • BlackDog

You really are a buffoon and appear to have a shallow grip on reality and I don't doubt a limited intellect . What's wrong with my user name? which is non discriminatory, non racist and personal to me. And for the record Leopold has already had words with you about your choice of language. He's never needed to do this with me or Pam or I'd suggest the overwhelming majority of this forum. He did have to with David Merrington though? so do yourself a favour and engage your brain and keep your remarks factual. And whilst you are on here again and before you change into a different character let's finally hear why you use a racist term as your user name?

    • Camel Jockey

I am all of those things your stylish dictionary is telling you. I know your kind and how you use your self righteousness to denigrate anyone that exposes you. You are a sad and mean excuse for a person at this moment, another irony.

      • Dana Burt

Sorry, I hit the wrong button. I do not like camel jockey. Nor do I like Pam. Why did she need to cast aspersions on the drivers mother? True or not it has no place in a forum that is supports dialogue about F1 drivers. It seems as an distraction the likes of Trump when he needs a distraction. Neither seems to have the sensitivity to appreciate how their personal diatribes detract from the real subject. Racing; not trolling!

  7. Camel Jockey

Funny how you all know of comments that you werent party to, Leopold made that comment before your other identity used the foulest of language in the fury of a child dispossessed. Never mind, it’s clear you have issues and that’s ok too as this site gives you an outlet to express yourself. We don’t have to approve, and so challenge should be part of a healthy equation, but obviously this is an assault on you’re meagre and average iq mentality. How many times have you heard people call out your name in friendship to passers by, believe me it is probably worse than Camel Jockey that you’re crying crocodile tears over. I won my race, that you are putting down.

    • BlackDog

You sound absolutely crackers. Your response is child-like and once again you don’t answer the question but sling mud. I think you should probably have a night without further excitement, do your breathing exercises and take your night time pills.

      • Camel Jockey

Once again deviating from the path and slinging personal arrows. Do us all s favour and take a holiday from your sad self flagellation. Go back to the original comment and kid yourself it’s honourable.

  8. Gerd

I think I finally got (I'm a bit slow sometimes…): you need this mud slinging to get rid of your frustrations. It for sure is a lot cheaper than a continuous visit to the shrink!
