In a significant step forward in his racing career, Danish racer Frederik Vesti is set to participate in the first practice session (FP1) of the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team's junior driver will also have the opportunity for extensive track time during the end-of-season test at Yas Marina Circuit on November 28.

Previously, the 21-year-old talent showcased his skills in Mexico City, replacing George Russell in FP1. His upcoming stint in Abu Dhabi will see him behind the wheel of Lewis Hamilton's W14, adhering to the regulation that requires teams to field a rookie in at least two FP1 sessions per season. This event is also a commemorative moment for Vesti, marking exactly one year since his first encounter with a Formula 1 car during the 2022 post-season test in the W13.

Currently, Vesti is a prominent contender in the 2023 F2 Championship, holding the second position. His impressive season includes four victories and three additional podiums, keeping him in the race for the championship title in the season's final round.

Reflecting on his journey, Vesti, who joined the Mercedes junior programme in 2021, expressed his excitement about the upcoming FP1 session in Abu Dhabi. He emphasized the invaluable learning experience gained from his official F1 session debut in Mexico and his eagerness to leverage his familiarity with the Yas Marina Circuit. Vesti also extended his gratitude to the team for this significant opportunity.

Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes' Trackside Engineering Director, praised Vesti for his smooth and effective handling of the car during his first FP1 in Mexico City. Shovlin expressed confidence in Vesti's ability to juggle his F2 commitments while extracting maximum benefit from the FP1 session and the busy Abu Dhabi weekend.

Vesti's return to the cockpit in Abu Dhabi is a testament to his growing stature within the sport and Mercedes' commitment to nurturing young talent. His performance in the upcoming events will be closely watched as he continues to ascend in his promising motorsport career.
