Jacques Villeneuve has hit out at rules prevented certain radio communication between driver and team this season, labelling the sport “ridiculous”.
The FIA clamped down on the rules this year in order to force drivers to operate the car unaided, and it almost cost Lewis Hamilton dearly in Azerbaijan as he tried to cope on his own with an engine problem.
And Villeneuve believes the decision to introduce the rules should be reversed as it doesn’t help the drivers and leads to confusion.
"I don't like this new radio rule," the 1997 world champion said.
"Either you allow radio or you ban it, you don't allow an in-between where you can say this but you can't say that - that was ridiculous.
"The messages that you heard during the race sounded childish.
"You just have to make a decision - either allow team radio or don't.
"Don't do something in-between because it doesn't work."
