Weather Forecast: Suzuka, Japan, October 7-9

Now that Super Typhoon "Chaba" finally left the scene earlier this week, no further tropical cyclones are expected in the area for the 2016 Japanese GP weekend. However, even without tropical factors, the weather in Suzuka might still have an impact on the sessions, mainly because of a rather unsettled Saturday.

Two dry sessions are expected on Friday, with a mostly sunny start into the day followed by increasing low clouds under a gustier southeasterly wind. It will be a mild day, with temperatures ranging between 20 and 25 C. Scattered light showers will be possible around the track, but only later into the evening hours.

On Saturday some patches of rain will still be present during the early morning hours, but drier and brighter conditions are expected to be in place by noon with temperature peaking around 27 or 28 C. As some convective clouds will develop over the area during the afternoon, the risk for isolated showers, possibly thundery at times, will increase again for the sessions. Even if the likelihood will be higher over the mountains northwest of the circuit, there is a slight chance for a shower to hit the track during P3 or the Qualifying.

The race day is likely to start overcast and rainy again as a cold front will cross the Suzuka region during the early morning hours. However, thanks to a drier and gustier northwesterly wind which will increase during the day, conditions are expected to gradually improve as time passes by. Thus, mostly cloudy skies, cooler temperatures and a dry tarmac are anticipated for the race at this stage.
