Lewis Hamilton was crowned as the 2015 world champion, beating both Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel to success in the United States Grand Prix to build an unassailable lead at the top of the standings.

The Briton has been phenomenal throughout the season and is truly deserving of his third world championship title. There have been a number of key moments throughout the season but perhaps victory at Montreal was THE standout moment in a superb season for both Mercedes and Hamilton.

Starting from pole, Hamilton produced an incredible performance - one that was worthy of winning the world championship. He took charge from the very first lap of the race and never looked like losing at what has been an exceptionally kind racetrack to Hamilton over the years. This was the fourth Canadian Grand Prix win of his career, and he was always in control of the race. Mercedes secured yet another 1-2 as Rosberg finished second, one of the many times that the German was held back as Hamilton cruised out in front.

In fact, Rosberg's frustrations came out at the end of the race in the US once the title was secure, as he threw his cap across the room at a jubilant Hamilton. It's certainly a difficult situation at Mercedes and it wouldn't be a huge surprise to see the team look elsewhere for a secondary driver to support Hamilton in the future. Rosberg has certainly looked like a number two driver this season and hasn't pushed Hamilton too hard, possibly due to the lack of support he received from the team, although Hamilton doesn't believe that crisis talks are needed at Mercedes.

Hamilton is already one of the main contenders to defend his crown next season and he will be looking to secure his third successive world championship. Hamilton, at the time this article was produced, is priced at 1/2 with Bet365 to win the title, while Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who threatened a late title challenge this season, is valued at 7/2. Looking at Hamilton's record since joining Mercedes, it would take a brave man to back against him claiming his fourth title at the end of next season.

If nothing else, Montreal sent a timely reminder to Hamilton's nearest challengers that he is still the man to beat. The victory extended his lead at the top of the Drivers’ Championship to 17 points and Rosberg just couldn't claw back enough of the lead to threaten his dominance. Hamilton is simply a class above the remaining crop of drivers in the sport and his scintillating display around Montreal remains one of his greatest performances this season. Next season, Hamilton will look for his fifth victory at Montreal and this could help him to become world champion for an incredible fourth time.
