Young Prodigy Jak Crawford Masters First Aston Martin F1 Test
Jun.6 - American racing prodigy Jak Crawford took a significant step in his motorsport career today, clocking over 400km at the Red Bull Ring in his debut with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One® Team.
The 19-year-old, currently competing in his second season of FIA Formula 2, showcased his talent behind the wheel of the AMR22. Under favorable weather conditions in the Styrian hills, Jak utilized the uninterrupted track time to perform a series of short and long runs, gaining invaluable insights into the car and its tyres.
This test marks a pivotal moment in Jak's journey within the Young Driver Development programme. He will continue to attend race events with Aston Martin Aramco, learning from the seasoned race drivers and the team, while also contributing to race operations through extensive simulator work at the AMR Technology Campus.
Looking ahead, Jak's focus returns to Formula 2 as he gears up for the sixth round in Barcelona from 21-23 June 2024.
Reflecting on his experience, Jak Crawford expressed his gratitude: “A big thank you to everyone at Aston Martin Aramco for their support and for making this test possible. My first day in an F1 car was an incredible experience, and I enjoyed every lap. It was a smooth day with no issues, allowing us to complete all our planned running. The main goal was to get up to speed and familiarize myself with the car's systems. It was a unique learning process, especially in the high-speed sections. I feel I adapted well and am excited for the next opportunity.”
Robert Sattler, Evolution Programme Director at Aston Martin, praised Jak's performance: “Seeing a young driver complete their first laps in a Formula One car is always special. Jak's full day of running has provided him with valuable experience to carry forward in our programme. We recognize the challenge of transitioning from F2 to F1, but Jak quickly adapted to the car and worked effectively with the team to improve throughout the day.”
