First Free Practice Results 2023 Saudi Arabian F1 GP

Dutch AlphaTauri driver Nyck de Vries was the first who entered the track at the start of the first part of the first practice for the 2023 Saudi Arabian Formula 1 Grand Prix. We saw the teams use all three tyres during the session.

Halfway the session only three drivers had clocked a lap time on the softest compound (C4) which is available in Jeddah. The top 10 at that moment was: 1. Max Verstappen - 1:30.494 (S), 2. Fernando Alonso +0.015 (S), 3. Sergio Pérez +0.098 (S), 4. Pierre Gasly +1.402 (M), 5. Esteban Ocon +1.499 (M), 6. Charles Leclerc (H), 7. Alex Albon (H), 8. Lewis Hamilton (H), 9. Carlos Sainz (H) and 10. Nyck de Vries (M).

Five minutes before the end both Mercedes drivers climbed up to P4 and P5 on the Softs, but still almost 1 second behind Verstappen who still topped the timesheet. Verstappen had now improved to 1:29.790, over +0.5s in front of Alonso and Pérez.

In the final lap Verstappen even improved the quickest lap to 1:29.617, which is already over 1 second faster than the quickest lap time of last year's FP1. The Red Bull driver also clocked the highest top speed of 336 km/h just before the last corner in his final quick lap. His sector times were: 32.559, 28.345 and 28.597.

In the midfield the lap times were yet again unbelievably close on the soft tyres.

Last years quickest lap in FP1 was a 1:30,772 min driven by Charles Leclerc with the Ferrari F1-75.
