Lance Stroll was the first driver to cause yellow flags when he spun in turn 4 with 1 hour to go. He collided into the barrier with his front wing and had to go back to the pits to check out the damage.
30 minutes into this FP1 session we saw both Ferrari drivers at the top of the time sheet. Sebastian Vettel was the quickest with a 1:31.747. His 10 years younger teammate Charles Leclerc was only 0,1 sec. slower on P2.
After Ferrari's performance it were both Mercedes drivers who topped the sheet. But Bottas and Hamilton didin't stay there for long as both Ferrari drivers even drove quicker lap times. Leclerc's time was even 1.2 sec faster than Hamilton's quickest lap.
Best of the rest was McLaren driver Carlos Sainz. The Spanish driver was only 0,1 sec slower than fresh Red Bull Racing driver Gasly.
At the end of the session Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg and Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Giovinazzi collided and spun of the track. They both could go on although the Alfa of Giovinazzi even was in the air for a second. Romain Grosjean had an front wing failure on the Haas in the end of the session and also had to go back to the pit for repairs.
Last year Daniel Ricciardo was the quickest driver in the Red Bull RB14. He clocked a 1:31.060 on soft tyres..
