The first practice for the Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix was driven under great weather circumstances.
The track was very slippery in the beginning of the session and we saw a lot of drivers going of the track and locking up their tyres. After 10 minutes the first lap times were set.
Both Renault RS18 cars have special front and back wings to get higher top speeds on the 2.2 km finish straight of the Baku street circuit.
After half an hour Max Verstappen spun and hit the barrier with his Red Bull RB14. He had to retire his car with a gearbox problem. His retirement caused a virtual safety car period.
Kimi Raikkonen only drove 10 laps. He had to go back to the pit because his car seem to have a problem with the Ferrari power unit. The Ferrari mechanics worked on his car throughout the whole session to try and get him back on the track.
