Daniel Ricciardo was 5 minutes before the start of the practice waiting to go out as first. Red Bull has replaced the turbo (no. in his RB14 power unit which will give Ricciardo again a grid penalty for the race.
Furthermore there were again three race drivers that sat out FP1, to let other drivers get F1 experience. Those drivers are Antonio Giovinazzi (Sauber), Lando Norris (McLaren) and Nicholas Latifi (Force India).
Kimi Raikkonen was the first to complete a lap in his Ferrari and drove a 1.20.666 on Supersofts.
With 27 minutes to go Red Bull driver Max Verstappen set the quickest lap time to 1:09.011 min.
The quickest FP1 lap time of 2017 was 1:09.202 also driven on Supersofts by Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes.
The top 3 quickest lap times were driven by drivers from 3 different teams and very close with only 0.096 sec. time difference.
