FP1 is driven in bright daylight and started at 16:30 hours local time. The race will be driven in the evening.
Lance Stroll got out as one of the first and spun his Williams on the 'green' track in the first few laps. He was able to continue.
Both Red Bull's drove the quickest lap times right away. After 40 minutes Daniel Ricciardo was the fastest in the Red Bull RB14 with a 1:41.814 on Soft (yellow) tyres. 2nd was Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes W09. He was 0,248 sec. slower but used the much quicker Ultrasoft (purple) tyres.
Sebastian Vettel was the first to dive under the 1:40. He used the fastest pink Hypersoft tyres. Verstappen also tried the pink tyres and was second fastest with 0.260 sec difference when his teammate Ricciardo even gone quicker than Vettel and put in a 1:39.711 min.
In the last few minutes Charles Leclerc was the first and only driver who hit the barriers around the circuit and could not continue. He had to retire his car with a broken right front suspension.
Last years quickest lap time was 1:42,489 driven also by Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull RB13.
