The beginning of the second free practice for the 2019 Chinese F1 GP saw a more or less same pictures as the first. In the beginning of the session Lewis Hamilton had the quickest lap time with 1:34.226. He was followed by Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc with a 1:34.271 and Max Verstappen with in the Red Bull who scored a 1:34.595. They all dove those times on medium tyres. In this part Bottas and Hamilton had an identical spin with the Mercedes W10 on cold tyres in turn 2.
With one hour to go the top teams fitted their cars with the quickest Soft tyres. Vettel and Bottas were the 2 quickest cars and Verstappen as 3rd on a 1:33.551. Hamilton was 0.5 s behind Verstappen on P4. Haas driver Romain Grosjean had a front wing failure. The wing broke on the right side by its own on the bumps of the main straight when the French driver was braking for turn 1.
With 35 minutes to go the teams started with their race simulation session in FP2. Leclerc seemed to have a cooling problem on the SF90 that couldn't be solved quickly. The driver from Monaco got out of his car and when all other drivers were lapping their simulation runs. With 18 minutes to go we saw Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas on top on the hard tyres with a 1:33.330.
Pierre Gasly who is promoted last year from Scuderia Toro Rosso to Red Bull Racing didn't came close again to his team mate Verstappen in terms of lap times. It looks like he can't get comfortable in the RB15. Gasly's quickest lap times was almost a second slower than Verstappen. I wonder how long Gasly can try to get up to speed, before Helmut Marko will send the French driver back to Toro Rosso.
Lewis Hamilton drove the fastest lap with a 1:33.482 in FP2 of last year.
