Event: Hungarian Grand Prix
Track: Hungaroring

Weather:  Sunny,  29ºC
Tarmac: Dry, 46ºC
Wind speed: 5.0 km/h
Humidity: 44%

At the start of FP2 the track temperature was almost 10°C higher then it was in FP1.

Haas driver Romain Grosjean was the first to clock a lap time. He clocked a 1:20.600 min. Right after Grosjean it was Ferrari and Mercedes who took over the lead. Both Ferrari and Mercedes drivers were lapping on soft tyres and Lewis Hamilton drove a 1:17.875 min.

Both Red Bull drivers waited for 15 minutes before they got out to clock a lap time, while Fernando Alonso reported he had no power over the radio and Marcus Ericsson spun for the 3rd time today on the twisted circuit.

Both Red Bull's could not top the timesheet right away. It was Lewis Hamilton who was still on top as he found 3 tenths in sector 1.

After a few laps it was Max Verstappen who beat the time of the British championship leader. He drove  a lap time of 1:17.509 min on the Softs. After a few laps it was Verstappen's teammate Ricciardo who accompanied the Dutchman on P2.

Hamilton was quickest in sector 1 in the Mercedes while Ricciardo was quickest in sector 2 and 3 on the Hungaroring.

Mercedes was the first to tryout the Ultrasoft tyres. With still one hour to go Hamilton and Bottas drove a good lap, but could not get the 3rd sector right and didn't beat the times of the Red Bull's.

Right after Mercedes it was Vettel who did some laps on the Ultrasoft tyres. The German driver was quickest in S1 & S3 and clocked the time under 1:17. He topped the time sheet with 1:16.834 min.

The last top team that fitted the Ultrasoft tyres under their cars was Red Bull. Verstappen recorded the first time on the purple tyres and got very close to Vettel with only 0.074 s between them.

Half way the session it was the Renault of Nico Hulkenberg who came out of the pitbox to drive in FP2 for the first time. Hulkenberg had a problem in FP1 with the his Renault Hybrid system, that took a lot of time to fix.

At this time a huge rain cloud showed up. The drivers got radio messages that the rain would not hit the circuit.

McLaren driver Stoffel Vandoorne had a big moment when his list control of his MCL33 just before turn 5, when he drove on the grass with his left rear wheel.

Max Verstappen showed a very good pace on the long runs.

The quickest lap time of FP2 in 2017 in Hungary was 1:18,455 min on Supersoft tyres by Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull).
