Fernando Alonso, Stoffel Vandoorne, Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean went out first in this FP2. Fenando Alonso had to miss FP1, because 2019 driver Lando Norris was allowed to get some more experience in the MCL33.
Sergio Pérez, Marcus Ericsson en Carlos Sainz also had to skip first practice. Their cars were driven by: Nicholas Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi and Artem Markelov.
Stoffel Vandoorne drove a 1:37.819 min on Ultrasoft tyres, the first lap time in this second free practice for the Russian Grand Prix.
In the first half hour of the session Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen was fastest with a 1:34.164 min. He was the only top team driver who used the Hypersoft tyres.
Halfway FP2 both Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas top the time sheet. Hamilton was fastest with a lap time of 1:33.385 min and Bottas was 0,1 sec slower. Both times were set on Hypersofts.
In the last part of the session we saw Vettel spin in turn 13. He could go on without any damage.
The fastest lap time of last years FP2 was 1:34.120 min driven by Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.
