In FP1 you might have thought wow! what happened to Mercedes? They were on P6 and P8! It's because they only used the slowest Soft tyre in this session.
Mercedes did use the faster tyres in FP2. Romain Grosjean was the first to go out in the Haas VF-18 and recorded the first lap time of 1:44.748 min.
After one hour of practice Kimi Raikkonen drove the quickest lap on Hypersofts. He drove the very fast time of 1:38.699 min which is more than 3 seconds faster than last years quickest FP2 time.
The much quicker lap times are also better because the track is changed a bit. Turn 14 and 15 are a bit shorter than last year which also made the lap distance 2 meter shorter.
After 1 hour of FP2, Sebastian Vettel wasn't flawless and hit the barrier on a hot lap. He had to go to the pits right away. and didn't go out anymore.
The quickest lap time of FP2 in 2017 was 1:41.852 driven by Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull RB13.
