Lap times 2nd practice 2019 Australian F1 GP

Haas driver Romain Grosjean was the first driver to go out on the Melbourne track. He also clocked the first lap time this FP2 session with 1:25.634 min on medium tyres..15 minutes into the session the French driver had to go back to the pits with an electrical problem, while Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel both went wide in turn 1 to do some lawn-mowing with their expensive F1 car.

After Nico Hulkenberg had to wait for his Renault to be ready in FP1, it was now time for his team mate Daniel Ricciardo to wait until the RS19 was ready for FP2. After 25 minutes he could step in the Renault and drive off. A few minutes before him Lewis Hamilton drove a quick lap on the medium Pirelli compound and drove the quickest lap with a 1:23.582 min. The top 7 was driving around with medium tyres.

Half way through the session the quickest cars were fitted with soft tyres to do some a qualifying runs. Both Mercedes drivers Bottas and Hamilton came out as quickest by far. The new Red Bull driver Pierre Gasly was 3rd, but had to leave a giant gap of 0,8 seconds. He was only just (0,010s) in front of Vettel's Ferrari and Raikkonen's Alfa Romeo.

Alexander Albon had a bit of a hard time on Albert Park with the Toro Rosso and left the tarmac several times. We also saw the other rookie Antonio Giovinazzi spinning the Alfa Romeo in turn 15 after touching the grass in the braking zone with his rear right tyre.

In the last minutes of the second practice session we saw Charles Leclerc losing control of the Ferrari SF90 when he the curb coming out of turn 4 and spun his car. He kept the car out of the barriers and was able to go on. Gasly told his team he had no power as he was driving into the pitlane with the Honda powered Red Bull.

Mercedes came out on top with quite a big gap this 2nd practice for the 2019 Australian F1 GP. Ferrari and Red Bull will be scratching their heads what to do to keep up this weekend.

The quickest lap of last years FP2 in Melbourne was 1:23,931 min driven by Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).
