Lewis Hamilton scored his 77th F1 pole position for tomorrow's 2018 Hungarian Grand Prix. It was the 94th pole for the Mercedes F1 team and his 5th pole of the 2018 F1 season.
The Q1 session started with a wet track and all drivers used the intermediate (green) tyres. After 2/3rd of the season it was Carlos Sainz who tried out the slick Ultrasoft tyres to be quicker. Sainz was much quicker so, all drivers quickly switched to the slick tyres and tried to get at the top of the time sheet.
In Q2 it was dry half way the first lap. All cars except Sebastian Vettel used the slick tyres. He used the intermediates from the start. Lance Stroll crashed his Williams and everybody else changed to intermediate tyres to clock their fastest lap time. Daniel Ricciardo who won last year had some bad luck with his run on intermediate tyres, because Stroll crashed in front of him in his quickest lap while the track got wetter each second.
In Q3 it rained hard and all cars had to use the wet (blue) tyres to set their lap time. On the last lap of the session it was rain king Lewis Hamitlon who scored pole for tomorrow's race. With his teammate Valtteri Bottas locking front row on 2nd and Kimi Raikkonen on 3rd with Vettel on 4th.
Max Verstappen who used to be very quick in the rain and was expected to be very fast in the wet in the Red Bull didn't put it together and will start from P7.
