Lewis Hamilton won pole for tomorrow's 2019 German Grand Prix with quite a big gap of 0.346 sec. to Max Verstappen who almost won his maiden pole position in the Red Bull. It was Hamilton's 87th pole and pole number 109 for the Mercedes F1 team.
Ferrari had a dreadful qualifying session. After being quickest during all free practice session they had a nightmare quali session dominated by technical failures.
Sebastian Vettel was the first of both Ferrari drivers who retired. The power unit broke down because of a turbo issue in Q1. He had to retire his car and probably has to start from P20 or even from the pit lane. In Q2 Charles Leclerc was next to retire in the prancing horse garage. His Ferrari SF90 had a fuel pressure problem that stopped him going for pole today. He will start as 10th.
Hamilton didn't break the pole record at the Hockenheimring. The records is still 1:11.212 min driven by Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari SF71H during last years 2018 qualifying session.
