Max Verstappen won his maiden pole position for tomorrow's 2019 Hungarian Grand Prix. He became the 100th driver to score pole in Formula 1. It was pole number 61 for the Red Bull Racing team.
Q1
Lance Stroll was the first to drive out to record a lap time. His first lap in the Racing Point was a 1.18.688 min. He was beaten for the first time by George Russel in Williams for the first time this season. He was even 0.545 sec. quicker with a 1:18.143. Charles Leclerc was quick out of the box in the Ferrari and drove the quickest lap of both Ferrari's with a 1:16.337.
Max Verstappen was quickest in the first try of the top teams with a 1:15.817 min. He even was 0.5 sec quicker than Lecerlc who was on P2 who a lap later made error in turn 14 by going on to the gas to quickly and spun backwards into the barrier coming out of the last corner. He was able to go back to the Ferrari garage for damage repairs on his backwing.
Williams driver was doing a good job in the Williams and was 14th on the timesheet 5 mintues before the end. In his 2nd stint he ended up as 9th because he was the first to finish. He then had to wait for the other drivers to get into Q2. Unfortunately he just missed out by 0.053 sec on Haas driver Romain Grosjean, but was quicker than Sergio Pérez (Racing Point), Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), Lance Stroll (Racing Point) and his team mate Robert Kubica, who was even over 1.3 sec. slower.
Q2
In Q2 the 3 top teams again tried to get a good enough lap on the more durable medium tyres in their first stint. If they can succeed the drivers are allowed to start on this tyre tomorrow and will have a strategic advantage. Hamilton was quickest with a 1:15.548 min in the W10 on medium tyres.
Before the last stint in Q2 Alexander Albon (Toro Rosso), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso), Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo), Kevin Magnussen (Haas) and Kimi Raikkoneen (Alfa Romeo) were in the elimination zone. The drivers of the top teams also got out on red tyres to defend their position. At the end of the Q2 session Raikkonen improved a lot and went from P15 to P10 to kick out Nico Hulkenberg in the Renault.
Q3
A few dark clouds crossed the sky above the circuit, but didn't release any rain. In the first stint of Q3. Hamilton was the first to put in a lap time and drove a 1:15.146. Verstappen came out as quickest after the first stint with a 1:14.958. The only drive in below the 15 seconds. Bottas was second, Hamilton 3rd, Vettel 4th, Leclerc 5th and Gasly 6th.
The second and last stint was kicked-off by Romain Grosjean who drove off as first. Leclerc was in front of Verstappen followed by Bottas, Hamilton and Vettel. Verstappen improved to 1:14.572 min. Bottas came very close and only came 0.018 sec. short to keep Max Verstappen of his maiden pole position in a new record time.
The pole record lap time of 1:16.276 min on the Hungaroring was driven by Vettel back in 2017 for Ferrari.

This will be a Red Bull win in tomorrows race if they make no mistakes, Honda power seems to have improved the output to be competitive enough. Hopefully they can get away from a standstill with out to much wheel spin. Ferrari will be at the mercy of the strategists decisions and driver error if they want podium finishes
At least it's not Mercedes one two again. Red Bull is getting better, meanwhile Ferrari has fallen off and can't get out of park. Incompetents.
Good on Max. But I'm more pleased to see Hamilton in 3rd. Not eve ry Brit thinks so highly of his arrogance. I hope Max wins, and Lewis breaks down.
