2023 Saudi Arabian F1 GP Report

Sergio Perez clinched victory at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, starting from pole position and successfully fending off challenges from Fernando Alonso and his teammate Max Verstappen, who charged from P15 to finish second. This marked back-to-back one-two finishes for Red Bull. Alonso initially secured a podium finish with his Aston Martin, but a stewards' review temporarily stripped him of P3 before reinstating it, pushing Mercedes' George Russell back to P4.

Perez's victory came after overcoming Alonso's early lead, a tense Safety Car period, and Verstappen's impressive midfield climb. Verstappen eventually had to concede to Perez due to driveshaft concerns. Alonso's strong performance was momentarily threatened by a time penalty for lining up outside his grid box, but his pace allowed him to secure third place. His P3 reinstatement made him the sixth driver to achieve 100 F1 podiums.

Mercedes and Ferrari struggled to match Red Bull's pace, with Russell finishing ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, and Carlos Sainz leading Charles Leclerc. Alpine showed improvement as Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly secured points in P8 and P9, while Haas's Kevin Magnussen and AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda battled for the final point, with Magnussen coming out ahead.

The 2023 F1 season now moves to Australia, with Verstappen leading the championship by a single point over Perez.

Both championships are Red Bull's to lose.
Checo is clearly, not only the DOTD but also the DOTW.
FIA inadvertently helped Max with his already good recovery drive by hastily deploying SC for something manageable under VSC or even yellows.
Zero chance for anyone to hit the recovery vehicle or Stroll's car, so hopefully, Wittich won't make any more Masi-like decisions.
Even some of Masi's questionable 2020 & '21 SC deployment choices were more justified.
The stewards should've been swift with Alonso's penalty for the incorrectly served 5-second one rather than wait until after the podium celebrations, given they handed the 5-second one for the incorrect grid positioning as soon as on lap 2.
Albon should've used his first pitting opportunity rather than pointlessly circle & risk stopping on the trackside.
Ferrari's race pace is again nowhere, high-ish degradation circuit, low-ish degradation circuit, the same outcome.
