Wolff admits Ferrari 'half a second ahead'

Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari SF90 and Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+ during the Barcelona February testing at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya (2019)

Event: Winter test Barcelona
Track: Catalunya Circuit

Weather:  Sunny & dry
Air temp:  10-17ºC
Tarmac: Dry,  11-28ºC

Excitement on this last days of testing. The teams were going a lot faster today and even Mercedes was turning up the horsepower in the W10. Sebastian Vettel was quickest already before lunch time with Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas as second fastest.

Around 15:25 in the afternoon session Vettel had to pull over because the Ferrari SF90 stopped due to an electrical issue, which would take too long to repair and called it a day. Vettel did drive 110 laps and had an encouraging day.

Yesterdays we saw a big crash of Pierre Gasly and quick lap times of Ferrari Charles Leclerc and Toro Rosso rookie driver Alexander Albon. The crash of Gasly caused a gearbox failure and the team was working whole day to fix it. Max Verstappen who took over the wheel of Gasly for today could only drive 29 laps.

Around 17:00 Lewis Hamilton got the C5 tyres bolted on his Mercedes and went out for a couple of hammer time laps. He was able to come up to 0.003 sec of the quickest 2019 lap time during testing of Vettel.

The quickest lap time of last years 2018 winter testing was also set by Sebastian Vettel in the Ferrari SF71H. He than drive a 1:17.182. This years fastest lap time set by Vettel was almost 1 second faster, which is a huge accomplishment difference. Looks like the bigger wings generate a lot more downforce to go even quicker around the long Catalunya corners.

Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat was the last to pull into the pits and to turn of his engine.

Eight! teams drove more then 100 laps today. In total the teams drove 1.132 lap today, a distance of 5.270 km around the Catalunya circuit.
