He may be breaking all records but with the cars and the rules of today you cannot compare his achievements to the great drivers of the past. They actually had to really drive their cars not just steer them . There was no power steering, automatic transmissions, tires that stick like glue and no data shown on the steering wheel. Most importantly, their was no constant information and data sent from the pit engineers. I'd like to see these weenies have to heel and toe while breaking into a turn. Hamilton would not be able to constantly ask for information from the pits. Bottom line, F-1 is no longer exciting to watch. Indy car is more enjoyable to watch.

Move on Garry. I watched F1 in the 60's. Yes the cars were different then, but you have got to move on. Many died in those days, However lots of the things on modern cars were developed through racing, only thing I do not like are the wings, expensive, fragile and I fail to see their association with road cars. Electric cars are here and who knows how that will end up. The driver has a lot more to do in a present F1 car, also timekeeping is now down to thousandths of a second not so then. Also the number 1 driver took over number 2 car, if his broke and he could get back to the pits!

I raced in the 69's. A Lotus F-2 to be exact and believe me there was more to do that pertained to driving. We didn't have the luxury of keeping our hands on the wheel all the time and having a group of people in the pit telling us every little thing that was going on. By the way, F-1 cars have very little association with road cars other than the obvious.
