In Part 1 of a two-part assessment, Peter Windsor looks back at Lewis Hamilton's brilliant, historic British GP win at Silverstone and looks at various aspects of the Mercedes strategy. It was the tyre choice, for example, and not the Safety Car, that defined the race for the pole-winner, Valtteri Bottas - so the question is why the two drivers were on different strategies - and why the pole winner got it so wrong. Events at the Monaco GP, Peter suggests, may have come into play.
